A low battery is the primary factor that can cause a paired Apple Pencil to stop working. If the charge level drops below 2%, the pencil will stop functioning, and it is necessary to charge it as soon as possible.
Charging didn't help?
During the application process, you had to turn off your iPad. This interrupts the connection between the two devices.
All you have to do now, is connecting them again:
Apple Pencil 2nd generation
Connect your Apple Pencil to the magnetic connector located on the side of your iPad.
Apple Pencil 1st generation
- Take off the cap and plug the Apple Pencil into the Lightning connector on your iPad.
- Tap the "Pair" button when it appears.
- Your Apple Pencil and iPad will remain paired until you restart the iPad, turn on Airplane Mode, or pair the Apple Pencil with a different iPad.
- To use your Apple Pencil again, simply repeat these steps to re-pair it with your iPad.
